"Yachana" is an indigenous Quichua word that means "a place for learning," which is the best description of what we do. As you embark on your journey deep into the Amazon, you can be proud that your visit is helping to address education, conservation and sustainable development in a unique way in this environmentally sensitive region. At Yachana, we believe the future of the rainforest is inextricably linked to the well-being of its inhabitants; only those who call the rainforest their home can ensure its survival.

You will hike in Primary and Secondary rainforest with one of Yachana's English-speaking naturalist guides and discover the amazing symbiosis of the animals, birds, trees, plants and insects to name but a few. You will discover how the area's peoples have coexisted with the forest for centuries. You will visit Yachana's extraordinary and impressive Technical High School set up for the indigenous youth of the Amazon and learn about its organic farm. You will visit a traditional healer for a cleansing ceremony, stargaze from our stunning deck and visit our Butterfly House. You will have time to relax in your hammock and to swim in the River Napo or to sip a drink whilst watching a spectacular sun setting over the river. We have recently made some wonderful improvements to our ecolodge including the addition of a new kitchen, dining area, observation deck and bar along with several cabin upgrades.  More changes are in the works!  

Please consider visiting with us soon.  Yachana Lodge is an integral part of our operation.  Your visit supports the school and gives you the opportunity to actively participate in our ongoing efforts in conservation, education and sustainability.

It is with great pride that we present the first graduating class from Yachana Technical High School! This past July, 47 students graduated from our three-year program well prepared to face the challenges of an ever-changing world. Perhaps one of the most memorable aspects of this celebration was the participation of the parents of our students as they placed the cape around their daughter or son´s shoulders before they proceeded to receive their cap from members of the Department of Education. The smiles exchanged between parents and their graduating children, the faces that showed their pride and appreciation were truly unforgettable. We will not forget these first graduating students of Yachana High School as they go out to make their way in their communities and begin adult life. It is with high hopes that many more will follow them and they will remain a community, always feeling that they have a home here.

Yacahna was recently named one of three winners out of 320 participants from 83 countries!  This is truly a great honor for both Yachana and Ecuador.  We are grateful for everyone's continued support of Yachana's conservation and social efforts as we strive to be a model for sustainability and conservation while working to protect the Amazon cultures of the rainforest.
